asos suspends sale of handbag after it\'s accused of \'ripping off\' independent designer
The fashion giant is launching an investigation after independent brand designer Lisa Lewis accused ASOS of imitating her designs.
Zeadora\'s designer, Lisa, pointed out on Instagram the comparison between her iconic Jacqui clutch at a price of £ 265 ($516)
Lightning marble clutch with asos, £ 30 ($58)
According to the Daily Mail.
The Buckle, marble plastic and lightning patterns of the two bags have undeniable similarities.
Lisa posted on Instagram explaining how she was eager to meet ASOS buyers at the Pure London trade show this summer, hoping to expand her business.
In an interview with The Daily Mail, Lisa said: \"I saw a girl at the trade show wearing an ASOS badge, eagerly running to her and asking if she would come to see my booth, but she said she was on her way out. that\'s not her department.
\"The next day, some girls with the same badge came over to chat and asked about my price.
They started taking pictures of my bag.
Especially Black Lightning with yellow lightning.
\"After the show, I emailed the girls who gave me business cards but never heard from them.
Lisa went on to explain how she met them while browsing the asos website after being sure that her design might be used.
\"Every week I like to check their clutch bag department on their website to see if they have done something similar for a cheaper price, I remember they copied a jacket from Laurie Lee so I always keep an eye out and I saw the bag.
\"The colors are different, but the Lightning shapes are exactly the same (
Lean on one side of it like I did)
I can\'t believe this pearl acrylic material.
\"Fans of Zeadora, whose handbag design used to be high-
Fashion magazines, including Vogue and Tatler, attacked ASOS on Instagram.
\"Your version is much better,\" someone wrote, and the other person said, \"Wow, that\'s too bad.
Others suggested that independent brands contact the general manager of asos directly.
Their PR lead responded: \"ASOS takes IP very seriously.
We are investigating this complaint and will contact Zeadora directly.
At the same time, we have suspended the sale of goods on our website.
In 2016, Lisa founded her \"cheap luxury\" fashion brand, saying she felt asos\'s design was \"unfair \".
In an interview with mail online, she said: \"I am working very hard to create a product that is\" affordable luxury \"and having ASOS do something like this is insulting and\" no.
The design of her brand is inspired by something of personal significance, such as music themes and prints.
Each item, including \"Jacqui\", is named after the family member.
After that, Zeadora reduced the price of the handbag to 150 ($291)
According to the reduction of production costs.
The bag, made of acrylic with marble effect, is fully lined and contains two removable golden shoulder straps.
The design of Asos is also made of acrylic and lined.
Lisa believes that trade shows should be more aware of their target market and share more information before brands participate.
She said: \"I was told it would be great for my business, but once I got there I felt like a fish that had left the water.
My brand is more of an intermediate market than a mass market, which is not clear until I get there.
\"With the similarity between luxury brands and retailers, this is not the first time that the inspiration behind ASOS design has been questioned.
Earlier this year, ASOS was accused of \"plagiarizing\" the design of Laurie Lee, independent designer of Laurie Lee leather, because of the leather jacket she sold exclusively at Selfridges.
In response to Laurie Leather\'s claim, ASOS said, \"We take the issue of intellectual property very seriously and immediately remove the jacket from our website when further investigating.
